DANUBE GUIDES BULGARIA

Nature park Rusenski Lom / Persina Nature Park

According to reliable sources, the lands of Northwestern Bulgaria are one of the first populated territories in Europe at all. The magnificent Thracian treasures of the region are a proof of ancient and rich history and traditions. Although it is one of the least known regions, it also has the greatest potential for development. The incredible views and sights will enchant you. Even the biggest skeptics will return with positive emotions and mild nostalgia for these places.

Persina Nature Park is one of the most important places from an ornithological point of view. For bird lovers, this is a kind of paradise. The park has a modern visitor center located at the end of Belene.

Rusenski Lom Nature Park covers the canyon of the river of the same name and its tributaries. It is located in one of the greenest municipalities in Bulgaria – Ivanovo municipality. The canyon hides unsuspected architectural treasures and romantic cycle routes.

The picturesque small town of Tutrakan is a home of 134 significant species of breeding birds. Here is one of the largest heron colonies. A local eco-tourism development group has been set up in the city. The many museums are a window on the past.

I was expert of ecology, environment and agriculture. As part of LENA project, I had the chance to visit new and exciting places and the pleasure to meet interesting people and collect great memories.

In my free time, I enjoy riding my bicycle along the Danube and go out in nature alone and with friends. I am interested, but more like a hobby – to ride along unpopular nature routes and take photos of landscapes. I love reading books under blue sky after riding bicycle.

In 2006, WWF established a registered organization in Bulgaria. More information about the work of WWF in Bulgaria and the region is available on the website of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme.
